Why EK4A?
It's simple: the quality of your life after a disaster is directly related to how prepared you are in advance. Of course you can find cheaper kits out there! But ask the seller of one of these cheap emergency kits if she uses such a kit in her own home and you will get the real story. Here at EK4A, we believe that if you are going to do it, do it right. Your reward? Nothing less than peace of mind. Let me share a story about how our premium kits came about and why I can sleep at night knowing I am offering you the most comprehensive emergency kit on the market.
A tale of two flashlights:
Sure it's cheaper to have a low quality flashlight and a bunch of batteries that may or may not be corroded when you need them, or a 12 hour single use glow stick whose waning gleam will peter out way before the lights come on. Oh, and I can't believe that some kits still come with candles--even though chances of a gas leak after a major disaster are extremely high.
When I started putting together a kit for my own home, I discovered the LED / FLARE / WHISTLE / STICK that is now standard in all of our kits. You should probably have one next to your bed and in each room in case of a blackout and for camping too. If the power is out for a week, which is what we are told to expect in the case of a major disaster, that means it will be completely dark. And if there's a quake, the ground will be covered in debris making your own home a hazardous zone. Think about what kind of light you will want to have then.
The weak glow of a cheap flashlight will not cut it. And you will not be able to keep that flashlight on for more than a couple of hours. Our light lasts up to 400 HOURS and is exceptionally bright. You can read by it. You can make your way through a pitch dark camp site.
The glow stick portion also works as a flare; it flashes quite dramatically and has the same long life. And the whistle can quite simply mean the difference between life and death if you find yourself buried in rubble in the dark.
We've researched all the wholesale options and come up with the best price, but it's still 5 times more than a glow stick. But you know what? If I won't put it in my own kit, how can I put it in yours and still sleep at night? I want these kits to give true peace of mind. None of our competitors include these lights in their standard kits, because there are cheaper, low quality options. I get it: let the buyer beware and all that and for them it's just better business. Not for us.
Bottom line: since there are no industry standards for emergency kits you will be tempted by the cheaper kits (who doesn't love a deal?), but take a good look at what you are and are not getting. See the complete list of what we offer in our kits and when you calculate what it would cost in time and money to assemble everything you see there, I know you will agree that you and your family deserve nothing less than the kits I am proud to include in the EK4A line up.
